Essential 04:21
No, I will not clap for you No, instead I will vote for you No, I will not clap for you No, instead I'll empower you Who knew thoughts and prayers would make no difference after all? A mem can stir but never fold Winning that argument online was worth its weight in gold The echo-chamber is getting old Love is essential working after all So loving essential workers helps us all Love is essential working - it works for all Rise up and empower the foundations of us all No, I will not clap for you No, instead I will vote for you No, I will not clap for you No, instead I'll empower you It doesn't matter which side you're on It's the same spine we're from We need to get shit done Its moments like these when you hold onto what you love close As its at the darkest of posts When you need them the most That anger boiling is a passion you feel Use it to grease the wheel And build foundations of steel Stand up, be counted, change your piece of the world You have a voice you know So let them know No. No, I will not clap for you No, instead I will vote for you No, I will not clap for you No, instead I'll empower you So, here is my voice for you So, I'll take action too Love is essential working after all So loving essential workers helps us all Love is essential working - it works for all Rise up and empower the foundations of us all

Herd Me 03:43
I feel a tsunami It's slipping right out of my hands To flood the land Consume every morsel Money it stains my DNA So come what may I'll pass it on over again and then I'll pass it on over again Herd me, herd me, herd me Into immunity, immunity, immunity My friend I've grown cloth ears and a tunnel vision of the truth I don't trust your proof What is the magic number of deaths that we'll deem ok? Amen I'll pass it on over again and then I'll pass it on over again Herd me, herd me, herd me Into immunity, immunity, immunity My friend One idea Plant the seed Tree or weed? It's blind to me Smile! Face forward! Repeat on cue. Your layer of news Fake to confuse I'll pass it on over again and then I'll pass it on over again Herd me, herd me, herd me Into immunity, immunity, immunity Thanks friend

Thread 04:03
Throughout space, crossing time There's a thread both yours and mine Push and pull, tug the line I'm always here on the other side We're connected in a way that reminds you home is always here within I'll be here Arms open waiting for our next chapter to begin With a laugh and smile We will talk hind legs for miles Hold it close - these threads aren't bare Hold it close - I'm always there We're connected in a way that reminds you home is always here within I'll be here Arms open waiting for our next chapter to begin We're connected in a way that reminds you hope is always here within I'll be here Patterns and memories sowing our next meeting again We're the thread The colour here The switch right there The warmth right here It's inside here and it's inside here It's inside here Its inside

Between the tick and tock Of the bright sparks in my mind Is the space where I try to live with myself A place that no mirror can find And that's when the ghosts come out Whispering sweet nothings Gathering armies They've never felt more alive I've never felt more alive Swarming They're swarming And they chatter oh they chatter Gathering their crops of seeds sown years ago It's growing Open your eyes They're growing They've never felt more alive Its just my internal communication It's just my internal communication speaking

about

I'm an essential worker and so are many of my friends and family members be it in hospitals, care homes, local government, food retail or working to support the welfare state. Yet routinely we seem to value these jobs the least with poor pay compared to other popular jobs.

This whole EP was kickstarted with the 'clap for carers' movement in the UK which does nothing but allow us to return to the previous status quo without change. If we want to value these professions we need to take action. That is what 'Essential' is all about.

'Herd Me' speaks of the various ways we gain herd immunity to various things like fake news, social media noise and so on.

'Thread' is for all the people I've not seen since being in entire isolation, working from home for the last 10 weeks. Just because we aren't together it doesn't mean we aren't connected by memory or feeling.

'Internal Communication' speaks of some deep discussions I've had with others who are isolated and how they've struggled to sit with their own thoughts and feelings. It rears up all kinds of mental challenges for them.

Thank you for listening.
